Year 9 Humanities Excursion Highlights

The Year 9 Humanities students are currently investigating the Civics and Citizenship unit ‘Our Democratic Rights’.
Within this unit the students build on their understanding of the concepts of the Westminster system, democracy, democratic values, justice and participation. They examine the role of key players in the political system, the way citizens' decisions are shaped during an election campaign and how a government is formed.
Students investigate how Australia's court system works in support of a democratic and just society.
Over two days this week, the students and staff ventured into the city to experience the court system in action. The students participated in a mock trial in the ‘Old Court House’ trying to determine if Charlie Wright was guilty or not guilty of grievous bodily harm. The highlight of the excursion was the opportunity to sit in an actual empty court room and then view from the public gallery , courts in session in both the District and Supreme courts.
