Year 8 and 9's support WA children through Warrior Mail Initiative

This term, students in Years 8 and 9 have had the opportunity to be part of a new initiative called 'Warrior Mail'.

Warrior Mail is essentially an initiative that has been designed to pick a brave little ‘Warrior’ each month that has spent an extensive amount of their lives in hospital at Princess Margaret. Each beautiful little warrior has had to deal with an exceptional amount of hardship, pain and isolation in their short lifetimes, and so Warrior Mail aims to bring some joy to their days. It consists of cards, letters, gifts and art work being sent to the Warrior of the Month so show them how supported, loved and admired they are in their strength.

Once a month, my Year 8 and 9 English classes bring out their creative sides creating extraordinary letters, jokes, poems and drawings for these children in need. Our students at Newman College has shown an incredible gratitude and admiration to these little fighters, which seems to have evoked a sense of understanding of the wider community within them. You can find information at the Communified website here http://communified.org.au/projects/warrior-mail/

The photo attached is of last months work for 8 year old Rachel who was diagnosed with infantile Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia when she was just 7 weeks old.
