Term 3 Week 9: From The Deputy Principal | Mission and Catholic Identity

Forming and partnering sustainability in Solidarity - Year 11 Philippines Immersion 2017
The Philippines Immersion is about connectedness and relationships, about choices and about an encounter with ourselves, each other, and ultimately with God.

In Weeks 7 and 8, Mr Finneran and myself visited our partner organisations in the Philippines to continue our dialogue regarding the imperatives of forming sustainable relationships to support both the organisations with whom we partner, as well as Newman College.

- The Kuya Centre for Street Children (Manila)

- The People’s Recovery, Empowerment and Development Assistance (Preda Foundation, Olongopo)

- Education Research and Development Assistance (ERDA, Manila)

Please continue to keep our partner communities, Year 11 students and accompanying staff in your prayers as they continue their preparations for the 2017 Philippines Immersion in November and December.

Year 8 Mass – Wednesday 13 September
As part of the College’s Wellbeing framework, the introduction of the Extended Pastoral Care period in 2017 has created a space for each year group to celebrate the sacrament of the Eucharist together each term. Our College Chaplain, Fr Joseph Tran (Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Mission, Whitfords), joins our community for each of these Masses to walk with, invite and challenge our students to see themselves as uniquely created in God’s image, with a knowledge that each are known and loved by the God of abundance. As a community who celebrates Sacrament together, these opportunities are spaces that we as a College seek to create to affirm each person on their faith journey as each continues to come to experience the love of Jesus in their lives of service to family and community.

Sacramental Information – Celebrating the Sacraments at Newman College
As the time for the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation, Eucharist and Reconciliation approaches, you are asked to notify the College once your child receives each of these Sacraments, to ensure that this data can be added to our records. Upon their reception of each Sacrament, your child will receive a certificate. Please scan or photograph this certificate and email it to the College Registrar, Flora Hughes

Newman College and the Marist Association will also acknowledge this significant event in your child’s Faith Journey at Assemblies throughout the year, through the presentation of the College’s certificate of acknowledgement.
