Term 3 Week 3: From the Head of Secondary

Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday, the winter weather relented enough to hold the annual Guild Athletics Carnival. The support of families and students for this event was most pleasing. These whole school events not only provide the opportunity for some students to show their mastery as athletes but, more importantly, they give students the opportunity to connect outside the classroom.

Due to some technical difficulties, the 400m races were held today (Friday 4 August). Presentations for the Carnival will take place on Monday 7 August at a whole scool Assembly.

Newman College offers a number of opportunities for students to connect with the community. As well as sport, the College has debating, Coder Dojo, Homework Club, musical groups and the College Production to name a few. Research shows that a sense of belonging is key to school engagement. We know that students who are engaged achieve better wellbeing outcomes.
