Term 3 Week 1: From the Deputy Principal | Learning and Staff Development

Parent-Teacher Communication
At Newman College, all teachers have made a commitment that any formal, summative assessments are marked and shared with students and parents no later than within two weeks.

On Marcellin Campus, the marks are released on SEQTA within this timeframe. Feedback from class activities and daily lessons is presented to students in a variety of different forms and all parents can expect feedback for learning regularly across the term. Timely feedback is vital in the learning cycle for all students.

In regards to email contact with teachers, we expect that teachers will respond within two days. They certainly cannot respond within one day as they are teaching classes, marking assessments, planning lessons, on yard duty or taking Co-Curricular activities. I ask parents to accept these timelines as reasonable turnaround times in the busyness of College life. If there is an urgent matter that needs to be acknowledged, a call to the Leader of Wellbeing may be the most appropriate avenue.

Code of Conduct
A reminder to all families that the Code of Conduct can be accessed via the College website by clicking here. The Code is mandated by Catholic Education Western Australia and the application of the Code extends to all staff, students, parents, guardians, caregivers and volunteers. As in previous editions of Newman News we will continue to outline guidelines for each conduct statement.

Conduct statement 5
You respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community.

1. You respect both the person and capacity of each member of the school community, treat them with dignity, show respect for their culture, values, and beliefs.
2. You interact with members of your school community in an honest and respectful manner.
3. You perform your duties and conduct your relations with students and members of the school community with fairness and justice.
4. You do not express racist, sexist, homophobic, ageist and other prejudicial and discriminatory attitudes and behaviours toward any member of the school community.

At Newman College, we are committed to providing the highest level of care to our students while they are on our campus or engaging in an excursion or activity offsite. To ensure our medical and contact information is accurate, easily updated and accessible, we have partnered with Consent2Go for our excursion planning and risk assessment processes.

For future upcoming excursions, a link with be emailed to parents requesting that consent be given to participate and that the medical information about the student is accurate at the time.

For students on Marcellin Campus, a link has been sent in regard to the upcoming Guild Athletics Carnival.
