Term 2 Week 8: From the Principal

CampOver the course of this week, Year 7 has been on camp at Woodman Point. For our students this was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on Year 7 to date, their faith and learning journey and specifically on the relationships they have formed. The series of activities and recreation the students undertook including rock climbing, the intimidating flying fox, search and rescue, bike riding and archery made for fun filled days. The collaboration skills that permeated each of these activities displayed the tremendous collegiality and friendships that have become a feature of this cohort. They also represented the wider values that are inherently part of our students and their families across our PK-12 College. Central to each person’s calling are the values that shape our understanding of who we are, what we believe and how ultimately we act. Duignan (2006) states “values are important to determine our sense of who we are. They develop over time and are influenced by family, education, peers and a whole range of experiences both good and bad that have helped shape us" (p.74).

As a Marist community, our values set the tone and culture within our College. Our common values engender each of our students with the confidence and ability to navigate their way in the world, find their place and ultimately their calling. Congratulations Year 7 on a wonderful week and we look forward to the future ahead.
