Term 2 Week 10: From the Head of Secondary

Assessment Policy – Years 7–10
I would like to draw your attention to changes to the Years 7-10 Assessment Policy that come into effect from the start of Term 3. The changes refer to the section on Planned Absences and Missed Assessments.

Planned Absences are classified as;
• endorsed
• unapproved
• approved
• medical

Planned Absences

The changes in the policy regarding Missed Assessments are;

  • A student who misses an assessment due to a holiday will be given a mark of zero.
  • If a student does not submit a piece of assessed work, a daily 10% reduction per day will apply and the student must complete an academic detention to complete the work.

College Timetable
In 2017, the College introduced some changes to the structure of the College timetable. One major change was to move the Pastoral Care period from the start of the day to after recess. Now students go directly to lessons at 8.45am rather than to an administration period. As a consequence, the number of students late to school has decreased significantly over the semester.

Another added consequence is that the Pastoral Care period is more settled and allows the Pastoral Care Teacher more space to work with the students.

IMG 6132Year 12 Retreat
This week, the Year 12 cohort has been on Retreat at two locations in Perth; Bindoon and Bullsbrook. I was facilitator at one of the sites and was impressed at how both staff and students used the time and space to reflect on what it means to be a young adult in today’s society. I thank Mr Lynch (Deputy Principal, Mission and Catholic Identity) and Mr Geekie (Dean of Wellbeing) for their efforts.

Year 11 Dinner Dance
The Year 11 Dinner Dance was held on Tuesday night and was a great success. I thank Mr Grose (Leader of Wellbeing Year 11) on behalf of the Year 11 students for the work he put into this event. A professional photographer was present to capture the night. Click here for photo ordering instructions.

I would also like to thank staff who willingly gave of their time to be present with the students at these events. The events would not be possible without their commitment.

As we move into the holidays, I remind the community to revisit the pdfUniform and Grooming Policy to ensure students return to school neat and tidy in Term 3. In particular the rules regarding hair, jewellery and the length of girls' skirts.

I wish all of the students a restful and safe holiday.
