Term 1 Week 8: From the Primary Leaders of Wellbeing

It has been another busy fortnight at our Primary School Campuses with children engaging both in faith and learning.

CaptureStudents have continued their Lenten Journey in the Liturgical life of the College. On Wednesday of Week 7, Year 4 Green shared their Lenten Prayer Assembly with the Lavalla Campus in the Champagnat Chapel. The students shared a retelling of the Good Samaritan parable reminding all of us of Jesus’ teachings.

Students in Years 4-6 have continued to participate in the Rite of Reconciliation with Father Andrew in the Champagnat Chapel. This is an important part of their Lenten Journey.

Both Primary Campuses have continued to raise money for Caritas with their class Project Compassion boxes. Together, both Marian and Lavalla have raised $505.70 so far.

Teachers, Parents and Students have been working together in setting goals for learning through the Interview process over the past week. We thank all parents for your continued support in your children’s learning.

Students in Years 4-6 are thoroughly enjoying their first weeks of STEM Classes with Mrs Gillespie in our new prototype classrooms. These learning experiences are perfectly catered for within this new and exciting space.

PK-2 Staff have completed their assessments of students’ Literacy and Numeracy skills and are using this data to cater for the children’s learning needs.

Homework Club continues to be a successful extension of the learning program at Newman College. Please remember that Homework Club is open to all Year 3-6 students from 3.15pm - 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoons. We thank Mrs Le Dan for her continued management of this program.

Both the Year 3-6 and IPSHA Swimming Carnivals took place in the last fortnight. We thank Mrs Erica Horn for her efforts in organising the smooth running of both events. We also thank the large number of parents who volunteered on the day.

Congratulations to Marcellin which was the overall winning Faction of the Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival and Brigid Faction for winning the Progressive Cup. Well done to all students who swam and participated with enthusiasm and encouraged their peers. Click here for individual Champions and photos from the day.

The IPSHA Swimming Carnival celebrated those students who made the interschool team and was a wonderful display of friendly sportsmanship.

Both Marian and Lavalla Campuses enjoyed a Harmony Day Incursion this week. Mr Phil Geia presented an engaging session incorporating song and dance where our students discovered more about our native Indigenous Culture. All students loved this celebration of diversity.
