Term 1 Week 6: From the Head of Secondary

Parent/Teacher Engagement

On Wednesday night, the Years 9 and 10 Parent Teacher interviews were conducted. This follows a very successful Years 11 and 12 evening held last week. These evenings are very important as they set aside time for parents, students and teachers to discuss student progress. However, interviews are only one of the ways in which parents and teachers can exchange information on student progress. SEQTA, the Student Diary and emails provide a quick and simple way for staff and parents to exchange information and we encourage parents to use these platforms. If a face-to-face meeting is required, an appointment to meet with the relevant staff member can be made, at a time mutually convenient to both staff and parents.

In the previous edition of Newman News, I published a list of contact details for key staff. Click here.

Punctuality

One change to the 2017 timetable is to commence school with Period 1 at 8.45am. Students are required to be at class ready to commence the day at this time in correct uniform and with the appropriate materials for class. Whilst we understand that being late to school is sometimes unavoidable, the self-discipline and management of being prepared and punctual is an important life skill. Leaders of Wellbeing are monitoring student preparedness for school and they seek your support as we work with students struggling in this area.

Uniform

As we move into autumn, the weather will cool. As it does, some students may take to wearing tracksuit tops with their summer academic uniform to keep warm. I seek your support in ensuring that students wear the school jumper with their summer academic uniform. The uniform shop is open during the week and has a large stock of school jumpers.
