Term 1 Week 4: From the Head of Secondary

Guild Swimming Carnival

The Years 7-9 and Years 10-12 Guild Swimming Carnivals were held in fine conditions at the Newman pool last week. Large community events like these build a sense of connection between the members of our community. For some of our students, the Swimming Carnival is the opportunity to demonstrate mastery at school. Connection and mastery are both key needs of students if they are to feel safe and engaged. Students who feel safe and engaged are more likely to succeed at their studies. Click here for results and Age Champions.

Class of 2016 Awards
IMG 15421I was privileged to attend the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Exhibitions and Awards Presentation Ceremony held at Government House last Wednesday evening. I congratulate Matilda Sergeant who was presented with her Subject Exhibition Medallion for achieving the highest mark in ATAR Outdoor Education in the 2016 WACE. The College also acknowledged Matilda at our High Achievers Assembly. Her award also represents the support she has received over her years of schooling, from her family, friends and teachers. All of whom were significant in contributing to Matilda’s success.

School Uniform
With the unseasonal cold weather of the past 2 weeks, some students have taken to wearing tracksuit tops with their summer academic uniform to keep warm. I seek your support in ensuring that students wear the school jumper with their summer academic uniform if they are cold and not tracksuit tops. The uniform shop has a large stock of school jumpers. Click here for opening hours.

Assessment Schedule
The 2017 Semester 1 Assessment schedule for Years 7-12 is now available in the documents section of SEQTA. The schedule sets out all of the summative assessments (exclusive of examinations) scheduled during Semester 1. Students are encouraged to check the schedule to assist with planning their study timetable.

Parent Communication Guide
I have provided a link to a document that can guide you when you need to make contact with the College. pdf2017 Parent Contact Chart
We encourage you to make first contact with either your child’s Class Teacher for subject specific matters or your child’s PCG Teacher for pastoral matters. If the matter cannot be resolved at this level, please contact the appropriate Leader of Wellbeing or the Head of Department.
