Success for Newman at Academic All Stars Tournament

Success for Newman at Academic All Stars Tournament

Last Week a group of Year 5 students – Jack Hughes, James Watson, Tom Broderick, Sally Clark, Nathalie Chan, Tyler Meyer, Jacob Iannantuoni and Jackson Belcastro represented Newman College in the Academic All stars Competition at St Thomas’s Primary school Claremont.

Each group had to complete tasks in Engineering, Art, Poetry, English, Drama, Mathematics, Strategy Games and General Knowledge.

Team Newman won both the Mathematics and Poetry disciplines and came a close second in the Strategy Game.
Thank you and Congratulations to Ms Delane and the team for their work in stretching their minds and doing so well.
The theme of the poem was Fear. The winning poem is:
On a cold, shadowy morning,
As the sun warms me up.
I risk taking a peek through the towering grass,
And my heart does a jump.
I see a deer unaware,
Oh that poor helpless deer,
will be in for a scare.
As I silently creep past,
A hawk gracefully takes flight.
The cold shadow rises over me,
And I dive to cover in fright.
The ground starts to tremble
As the elephant rises,
The great beast starts to roam,
And claim his prizes.
I realise I’m only a tiny mouse,
That survives only with defiance.
In a great treacherous savanna
By James Watson and Jack Hughes.
