Shopfront Food Drive

The Shopfront, which is part of the Archbishop’s Lifeline Project provides food and hospitality to the poor and homeless who venture in for a meal or a welcoming face in the premises which are opposite the Maylands Train Station. We have been involved with cooking meals for Shopfront for three years now, so when we were contacted by Brian Tierney, who explained that the demand for non perishable food parcels was much higher than their ability to supply them, we knew we could call on the Newman College Community to help us, help Shopfront.
Over the past two weeks, we have been overwhelmed with the response of food donations from the families in our college community and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you so much, on behalf of Shopfront. On Monday, May 23rd we had TWICE the amount of food, available for collection, than we had ready the previous week. In our request for help, we quoted from Matthew 25 and placed this quotation on each of the food crates in our Pastoral Care Group Classrooms: “Whenever you do this for the least of my brothers and sisters, you do it for me”.
Thank you to students and families across all three campuses for your wonderful support of this urgent need for support for Shopfront.
Jenny Lindsay, Social Awareness and Action Mentor
