Sam wins Speak Up Competition!

Sam wins Speak Up Competition!

Congratulations Sam Floate (Yr 6) who has won the Freemasons WA Speak Up Competition 2015 for his four minute presentation titled “Blink”.
The Speak Up Award programme endeavours to provide young students from Years 5-7 with the opportunity to learn, develop and practise public speaking skills. Students are judged on their chosen subject, planning, content, timing, voice, eye contact and engagement with the audience.
This year, 145 children from 52 schools across the WA Metro were selected to compete. The competition commenced with each student presenting their speech to the class with the top two progressing to the Semi-Finals. The Grand Final was held last night at Lawley Park Village, Menora, where Sam competed against 12 other finalists.
In an incredibly engaging speech, Sam spoke about how life changes very quickly “in the blink of an eye”. Sam used the example of his mum turning 40 and what people can accomplish in long and short periods of time.
Sam won $100 and trophy. He will also have his name engraved on a shield which will be displayed at the College. Newman will also receive a monetary donation from Freemasons WA for its Library.
