Funds Raised for CanTeen

Funds Raised for CanTeen

On Friday 5 September our Year 12 students had the opportunity to remember and support all those afflicted with cancer, affecting over 40% of Australians in their lifetime. CanTeen is a charity that provides help and support to young people in Australia with cancer. Our students organised two events for this day, to raise awareness for their work and efforts.

They decided to run a raffle to raise money for CanTeen. The money that was raised was donated to CanTeen with the hope that one day we may have a cure for this illness.

As well as the raffle, the students also held a vigil in the Chapel at recess on Friday for those people whose lives have been touched by cancer. Prayers were offered and candles lit to remember those people who have suffered through cancer.

At lunchtime a concert was held on the Chapel verandah and we would like to thank the musicians who entertained us and also Mrs Margaret Goldsmith, our Music Coordinator and Ms Kimberley Lloyd our choir mistress who gave so much of their free time to have the groups performing like stars.

Congratulations to Liam Barclay, who won an iPad and Nixon Martinovich, who won an iPod Touch.

A special thank you to all the students who participated in the fundraising event for CanTeen which raised $630.

The staff also got involved in the fundraising activity by purchasing tickets for a magnificent hamper which was kindly donated and a further $140 was raised for CanTeen bringing the total donation to $770.

Three students who need to be thanked and commended for their efforts in making the event such a success are College Captains, Teegan Butler and Preston Branton together with Year 12 student Conrad Hogg, who was the person who actually came up with the idea and presented it to the Student Council.

The College would also like to acknowledge the following companies for their generous donations:

• Residential and Investment Realty
• Fashion Carpets Pty Ltd
• Brown–Neaves Construction
• Beaumonde Homes
• Switch Homes – A gourmet gift hamper which was raffled to the teaching staff.
