Primary Scitech Challenge Day Highlights

Last Tuesday three Year 5 students (Hannah, Blake and Christian) together with six Year 6 students (Nathalie, Claudia, Nicholas, Jackson, Andrew and Matthew) attended Scitech’s annual Challenge Day.

The Challenge Day provides a platform for like-minded students to increase their confidence and team building skills in an environment where they are competing against other schools.

The day included Engineering, Coding, Astronomy, Rover Challenges and a Math’s Quiz. We were provided with biscuits and water for morning tea, pizza and juice for lunch. Yummo!

The Engineering Challenge required teams to construct a life jacket for a 440g can of beans using limited materials. The can should be able to float for 60 seconds.

The Coding Challenge required teams to complete three timed activities of increasing skill, the last of which involved angles and distance.

Astronomy took us to the Planetarium where we identified planets and constellations in our night sky. Later we watched a video explaining our galaxy and its origin. A short quiz followed.

The Rover Challenge saw teams design and construct a device that would enable a Rover to land in tact when dropped onto rocks from a meter and later a two meter height.

All students represented both themselves and the College well, we enjoyed the day and wish next year’s team members well.
