Philippines Immersion 2016

A group of 13 Year 11 students and three Teachers will travel to the Philippines over a two week period from 19 November - 2 December to take part in the inaugural Philippines Immersion.

The group will be participating in a program of solidarity and engagement which stimulates their sense of social justice and heightens their awareness of the opportunities for service in the local and broader community, both now and post school.

The immersion will:

• Provide students with opportunities for actual contact with the world of injustice.
• Promote in the students a love and concern for all people which complements the church’s 'preferential option for the poor’.
• Increase awareness of the needs of others in our world and an understanding of the structural injustices that cause poverty and oppression.
• Provide the Newman College community with an opportunity to understand, witness and be involved in sustainable development projects undertaken by Non-Government Organisations such as Caritas Australia and Marist Asia Pacific Solidarity.
• Promote justice through developing relationships of love and trust among all men and women.

Students will visit the PREDA Foundation, Fatima Center and KUYA Centre. These organisation care for street children, fair trade projects, among the many causes.
