Newman Surfing Team Thrashes Competition

Newman Surfing Team Thrashes Competition

On Monday 11 August Boys Newman College Surfing Team contested the Surfing WA Zone 1 qualifying competition. This competition allows boys to qualify for the State Final and possibly the National Titles which are being held in Yallingup in December this year.

The boys enjoyed a fierce competition with Jack Merson and Lachie Taylor winning the Junior Boys Surfing Final together with Jack Byrnes and Brendan Wain winning the Junior Boys Bodyboarding. The Newman boys were so strong that all the Junior Finals were between Newman teams.

Members of the Senior Boys team were unlucky with injuries and absent surfers but saw several teams through to the semi finals.

This is the first time that Newman has won the zone beating a host of other top surfing schools. The future looks bright with great depth in the Junior Boys and also with the Year 10s moving through to the Senior Division. We look forward to the Girls surfing this week in their zone competition and the State Finals next week.

Duncan Pugh, Head of Year 11
