Marist Netball Carnival Highlights

Marist Netball Carnival Highlights

Two weeks ago, 10 girls set off to compete in the 23rd Annual Marist Netball Carnival being held in the country town of Forbes, NSW. After months of early morning trainings, NAS games, the High School Cup Carnival and a number of fundraising events, we were prepared to compete against the other Marist schools from all over the country. Together with our extremely experienced coaches, Miss Hunt and Mrs Richards, the team set off with soaring levels of enthusiasm.

We landed in Sydney and the next morning hopped on the bus for the six hour journey to Forbes. The bus ride took us through the picturesque Blue Mountains and we were lucky enough to stop off to get pictures at the Three Sisters. Once we arrived in Forbes and visited the host school Red Bend College, we all attended the Opening Mass which set the scene for the next three days ahead.

Although winning was our main objective, the competition was tough and despite coming 7th in our division, we were humble in our successes and gracious in our losses. Though more importantly, we never gave up. While on court we were rivals, off the court we made friends from all over Australia and we continue to still be in contact with them today. We left Red Bend and Forbes with so much positivity - the opportunity to play netball, the experience of travelling with a school team, friendships we couldn't have anticipated and memories we will have forever.

On our last night in Forbes, all the Marist schools gathered for dinner at Red Bend College, which quickly turned into a fun filled night that will be a fond memory we will all take away and remember forever.

This trip marked an end for some of the team members and an amazing new experience for our “rookies” which has opened their eyes to the years that could lay ahead.

I would like to say a huge congratulations to my whole team for an exceptional few months and an amazing Carnival. Congratulations to the Carnival Players of the Day, an amazing effort and something to be immensely proud of - Kayla Nowrojee, Year 11 (Day 1), Taya Voysey, Year 10 (Day 2), and Jessica Harvie, Year 11 (Day 3). An honourable mention goes out to our Captain, Jetanah Romano (Year 12) who helped lead the girls, Mr Finneran for coming and supporting us and was also our outstanding self appointed team scorer. Lastly, a BIG thank you to Miss Hunt and Mrs Richards for all your efforts - the early morning starts, carnivals, meetings, organising, arranging, coaching, your time away from your families and of course for looking after us all for the week while we were away …. we are indebted to you forever.

Jessica Harvie, Vice Captain
