Great Achievement for Newman Surfing Team

Great Achievement for Newman Surfing Team

Friday 22 August saw 6 students from Newman College compete in the Surfing WA State Surfing Finals. Just to make the Finals was a huge achievement for Brendan Wain, Jack Byrnes, Maddie Goldie, Rosie Mahony, Lachie Taylor and Jack Merson. All 6 students did an awesome job of representing the College in challenging conditions with the surf over head height on the sets.

Jack and Lachie progressed all the way through to the Final where they lost by only half a point. While the boys were disappointed, they did a fantastic job to come second in the State Final and just fall short of going to the National Championships. This is only the second time we have had a team go through to a State Final.

All the students who competed in the College's Surfing Program this year were brilliant and winning our Metro Zone for the first time ever. I am sure we will be back next year better than ever and hopefully capture that elusive State Title for Newman.

Duncan Pugh, Head of Year 11
