Building Bridges

Building Bridges -971

Newman College is a proud participant in the Building Bridges Project, which aims to foster interfaith connections, facilitate dialogue, respect and friendships between young people of different faiths from across Perth. On 24 August, Newman College hosted Carey Baptist College, Carmel College and the Australian Islamic College.

The Building Bridges Project began in Perth in 2016 with Newman College as an inaugural participant. This Project originated in Victoria and has successfully run over the last 14 years. The Building Bridges Project invites students in Years 10 and 11 to gather over 5 sessions in order to visit each other’s school campuses, participate in workshops, develop lasting friendships and enjoy games, learning experiences and a shared meal.

Newman College is committed to developing 21st Century citizens who are aware and actively engaged with the pluralistic nature of contemporary Australian society. The Building Bridges Project seeks to grow and develop an ongoing awareness and capacity between communities that supports authentic and ongoing interfaith dialogue as we collectively seek to grow and facilitate opportunities for all students to be active and informed citizens.

Visit from Members of the Executive, Catholic Education WA (CEWA)
As part of the CEWA annual visitation program, we were delighted to welcome Dr Tony Curry, Director School Improvement, and Mrs Donna O’Hara, Director Community Engagement and Employee Services, to Newman College on Thursday morning. Executive visits to schools provide an opportunity for the Directors to meet with the principal and leadership team and to see what is working well in the school. A key element of the visit is to meet with staff and students during lessons.
