Term 3 Week 3: From the Head of Primary

Our College community is truly remarkable and I have had the pleasure to reflect on this while attending the Catholic Primary Principal Association Conference this week. To be able to share the stories of our dedicated staff, parents and students we have at Newman College was a privilege.

Year 2 Parent Information Evening
On Thursday 3 August, Year 2 parents attended an information evening that outlined the progress of their child’s learning and how the College is always trying to best meet the needs of every student. Parents were able to share their experience and work with dedicated staff to better understand the driving principles of the learning occurring. I would like to thank Mrs Ravi, Mrs McAuliffe, Mrs Shaw and Miss Circosta for their time and effort in offering an education that is working to produce successful learners for the future.

Having launched the Behaviour Management Policy three weeks ago, students in Pre Primary - Year 6 were asked to reflect on the 5 key areas of respect for their year level. This has been an incredibly valuable exercise as the students have given a voice to the driving force of our Wellbeing. Examples spread from our Pre Primary students who feel that “Respect for Others” includes sharing and being kind while our Year 5 students have connected this with social justice issues at school and around the world in how we support those most in need.

Catholic Performing Arts Festival
Over the past week, a number of students in Years 3-6 have enjoyed performing at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. On Monday 31 July, the Lavalla Strings Ensemble, comprising students from Years 4, 5 and 6, represented Newman College in a performance at Trinity College. We also saw many of our students perform individually throughout the week. In Week 5, the Year 5 students and the Lavalla Choir will perform and represent the College.

We congratulate those students who have already represented our College, who have done so with excellence, humility and talent. We wish those still to perform all the very best.

Sustainability and Recycling
At Newman College we are committed to caring for our environment.

Sustainability through recycling has been a big focus at our Primary Campuses for a number of years, utilising the state wide ‘Waste Wise Program’ and funding.

As part of our ongoing drive to recycle and re-use materials, we are asking our College community to donate unused POTS, PANS, FRYPANS, SIEVES, BOWLS, LADLES, LARGE SPOONS etc.. so that the children can collaborate and create imaginary play in the playground. Any items will be greatly accepted and can be left at the Main Reception of the Marian Campus. We thank parents in advance for generously supporting this initiative.

IPSHA Cross Country Carnival
Good luck to all Year 6 students who will be representing the College at the IPSHA Cross Country Carnival being held on Thursday 10 August. The students have been training hard at the Marcellin Campus and we wish them all the best.
