Book Week Highlights

Book Week 2017: Escape to Everywhere

Book Week was an exciting week for our Primary Campuses as together, students and staff celebrated books and Australian authors and illustrators.

All students from Pre-Kindy to Year 6 took part in a Book Week parade, which was an opportunity for them to dress up as their favourite characters. We saw a wonderful range of creative characters such as the Mad Hatter, Willy Wonka, Matilda, the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and the Saucepan Man. All students enthusiastically took part and looked so wonderful.

The staff at Lavalla Campus dressed up as characters from the Harry Potter series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first book in the series, ‘Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone’. The staff at Marian Campus dressed up as various characters from some wonderful stories, such as Strega Nona, Mary Poppins, the Day the Crayons Quit and the Cat in the Hat.

All students from Kindy to Year 6 enjoyed a visit from exceptional local author Sally Murphy, who writes children’s literature across all age levels. Sally discussed the creative process of writing, illustrating and publishing a children’s book and explained to the children that anyone can be an author and encouraged them to keep writing their own stories.

Also during Book Week, Glenn Swift ‘Storyteller Extraordinaire’ entertained the students and staff from Years 1-6 with his humorous stories, some which were themed to the environment and others which were based on social and natural history. There were lots of opportunity for participation as Glenn enjoyed creating storytellers in his enthusiastic audience.

The Kindy and Pre-Primary students were transported into a magical world as they watched a puppet show, ‘The Gingerbread Man’ by the Tales with a Twist theatre. The children were engaged with the show and captivated by the exciting characters.
