Newman Boys win ACC Hockey Competition

Newman Boys win ACC Hockey Competition

The annual ACC Hockey Tournament was played at UWA Sports Park on Thursday 23 June. In the round games we played a total of 5 x 30 minute games.
Congratulations to our boys who won the competition and are ACC Champions for the first time!
During the round games we played some very good hockey, yet, at times we were inconsistent in our performance. The defence slowly adjusted to the game plan and got better as a unit each game. This was really important as we were not scoring many goals. The spirit and the intensity that the boys played with was outstanding and I have no doubt that this was integral to our performance throughout the day.
We really did rise to the occasion in the semi final. The pressure applied to the opposition was excellent and we had numerous opportunities to score. Fortunately, our defence stood firm and again conceded no goals. I nil and into the Grand final. We had to wait some 35 minutes for that game as the other semi went to extra time and 2 lots of penalties. CBC ended up winners (13-12)
In the first half we had most of the play and were rewarded with the first score. CBC gradually got on top of us in the second half but we defended well, thwarting many of their opportunities. They finally scored with 2 minutes remaining, extra time. (5 minutes each way, golden goal)
We started the first period with a lot of intensity and created some promising opportunities. At about the 3-minute mark Joe Moylan swooped on a loose ball in the circle and slotted it pass the keeper.
Some firsts:
•Undefeated over 7 games
•Conceded only one goal all tournament
