A Message from the Head of Primary - Week 10

As we draw to the end of the year, it is important to give thanks for all the blessings we have received through our children, parents and staff. The Newman College community is a place of support and generosity. This year with the focus of “In the Way of Mary’ there have been numerous times that many, many members of our community have shown their Mary like qualities through their words and actions. Thank you to all the parents especially who have worked with the staff and students to ensure a happy place of learning.
As at the end of every year we farewell staff who are moving on. There are a few on leave and some who have decided to finish their careers at Newman College and start a new chapter of their life.
Mr Tony Patterson has been on leave for most of the year. He has taken time out to explore a world outside of Education. He has been a significant staff member for many years and has made an enormous contribution to the education of the students, the faith life of the College and the collegiality of the staff. He is already sadly missed. I wish him much happiness and health as he enjoys his new journey.
Ms Annette Pichler has been at the College for 30 years. She has gifted many many children with the skill and love of all things artistic. Her passion for the Arts has inspired so many young minds to express their creativity and to learn to express themselves in different ways. Annette has given so much of herself, her time and her talent to the whole community and she too will be very sadly missed. I wish Annette a wonderful time as she retires from Education and takes on other roles.
Other staff who are completing their contract due to various leave situations include Leonie Forrest who has given her Kindy class a great start in their educational journey, Danielle Moore who has been a very welcome member of the Pre Primary team, Kelly Simpson who has worked in the Pre Kindy and delighted the children with the experiences she has provided and Natalie Borbely who has worked to ensure all our children are able to access their educational needs through extra support. Kim Watson has also been a delight and a great support for the staff while running the Pre Primary PMP program for the last two and half years. Thank you to all these staff for their commitment to our students and families and we wish you all well in the next step of your professional lives.
There are a number of staff who have accrued leave for 2015. Edwina Russek, Helen Pissoort and Erica Horn have taken the deferred salary option and so will be away for the year and Scott Harvie and Drew Elliott will be on long service leave for the start of the year.
I wish all our families a very happy, holy Christmas, where homes are filled with the joy of the spirit of Christmas. It is a wonderful time to slow down and enjoy the company of our family and friends. Happy Christmas
Jocelyn Hansen , Head of Primary
